Its Thanksgiving Day.
I am thankful for this.
I could not think of one thing that I am thankful for. Even though we are in the middle of the worse drought that we have experienced in our lifetime there is so much that I am thankful for. For the moment I have food, a house to live in, clothes to put on, a computer that works which enables me to write and a good number of the other modern trappings of life.
I wake up each morning and when I look out my window I get to see the best view in the world.
I have a husband and five beautiful children. My father is alive and while my mother is no longer with us I am thankful for all that she taught me, the care she gave me and unlike many children I had her in my life for nearly 60 years.
I am thankful that I live in Australia, a country where there are no bombs falling on a daily basis; education is available for those that want to avail themselves of it, employment can still be obtained, roads are safe to drive on, entertainment is laid on and freedom of speech is still possible. Yes I know that these things are slipping away from us but for the moment we still have them.
I am thankful for all my ancestors, those who I have never met. These people worked hard, battled on through much tougher times than I have experienced, fought in wars, shaped their children and helped make my world what it is today.
The one thing that I am most thankful for though is the God loved me enough to send Jesus into our world to show me how to live now and after my time is finished here, forever. (John 3:16)
