Being a Mosquito

Summer has arrived in Australia, so have the mosquitoes. Early one morning I could hear the familiar buzzing that indicated an attack was imminent. I quickly pulled the bed sheet up over my head, fending off the minuscule creature.

For such a small thing they can be such difficult pests to deal with. It wasn’t long before I could hear it returning not only once but several times. They are persistent little bugs. They wanted to gorge on my blood, to fill up to the point of busting and thereby ensure their survival. However, they will spread diseases and viruses when they bite.

As I fended it off for the fifth or so time it occurred to me that I needed to be a mosquito. I need to persistently go to Jesus. I am frail and small which means I need to be constantly filled with the Holy Spirit to survive spiritually.

This is of course, where the similarities end because unlike me, Jesus won’t fend me off. I am His child, not a pest. It won’t matter how many times I run to Him, He will always welcome me with open arms and allow me to be completely immersed in the Holy Spirit. Jesus will never harm me no matter what I do.

“I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.” John 6:51.

Are you a mosquito, constantly going to Jesus to receive spiritual food for eternal life?
