Common is Special
A friend placed some of what she called common geraniums in a crystal vase making a beautiful picture. I have to say that my first reaction was to feel a bit sorry for these very bright flowers. Yes, they grow easily without needing too much attention, they can be propagated without too much trouble, yet their beauty fills many gardens with colour, particularly where the owners are time poor.
I immediately thought about us as common humans. You know, the ones that don’t achieve great things in the eyes of men or struggle to be different to the many? Most of us fall into the category of being common or ordinary.
Yet, when God places us, and He does, in His crystal vase, through the blood of Jesus we make a very big difference to someone’s world. That world might not extend beyond our front gate or our small town but just like those geraniums that brighten up a small room, we make a big difference right where we are.
Mark 5:18-20 tells of a man Jesus healed who wanted to travel the country with Him, but what did Jesus tell him to do? Go home to your own people and tell them. While we are not told what happened after that, we can only imagine what a difference he might have been able to make in his home village.
Like the common geranium, we don’t last very long, but while we are here, let’s make sure that we brighten the world in which we have been placed and remember, that because we have been placed in a crystal vase, the effect will be greater as we work for our Father, not in our own strength but in His.
We are all beautiful and special in God's sight!
