Is Less More

Some people have suggested that Covid was a way for God to send us to our room to think about our value systems. If this is the case: what are the good things that could, if we are willing, come with this brave new world that will be our normal?

“Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10

The internet has become our shopping centre. If we want to sell, then I suggest that those who are honest, reliable, and market wisely are going to be able to survive longer than those who market for a quick buck. However, we also have learnt that computers and the internet are not a replacement for everything, particularly the face to face teaching of our children.

Putting all our eggs in one basket has taught us that when the basket gets smashed, so do most of the eggs, so in our brave new world we need to find more baskets to work with. Yes, this is going to mean that we have to get fitter; mentally, physically, and emotionally.

Planning for functions has become way more complicated these days as we learn in a post Covid world. There is going to have to be a return to the fashion of sending invitations and RSVPs, something that we had lost in the pre-Covid world.

We could, if we are willing, realise that people are more important than the dollar and goods. The neighbour next door needs to visited and made to feel valued.

“This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.” John 15:12

In the new world, the job market, while different, is still going to be smaller I fear, and so those that have jobs will need to be diligent, and those that don’t have work, may find that any job is better than no job at all. I also think that wages will need to flatten.

“Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith.” Proverbs 15:16

I know this sounds so late 1940’s or early 1950’s, but then here’s the thing: we had a much better quality of life, as opposed to quantity of stuff.

As we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:18

Surely we will, in this brave new world, realise that less is more.
