As I wait to hear news of a friend lying unconscious in hospital I marvel that according to medical experts, that even as we lay on our death bed waiting for God to open the door to our eternal life, our hearing is the last of the senses to go.
How wonderful that God made us this way! How wonderful that right to the last we can hear the messages of love from those who care for us. Their messages of comfort and assurance that it is ok to move on. Sometimes it will their voices calling us back, begging us not to leave. Hearing those messages may be what helps us to fight harder to come out of the darkness of unconsciousness.
More importantly, how great is it that even when our family feel they can no longer reach us, our hearing is available to hear the message of love from our Father in Heaven. Did God make us this way so that we could get one last chance to ask for His forgiveness. For those who have already accepted His gift of forgiveness, it will be brilliant to just hear Him calling us Home.
“He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.” Matthew 11:15.
Oh, thank you Father that we can hear those we love and you, right to the very last moment we are here on earth.
