I bought this...
I was given some years ago an ornamental pot plant holder. While it wasn’t very big it still brightened up my lounge room. It was in the style of a classical Creek/Roman child holding an urn of some sort into which the plant was supposed to go. However like many of my things it was knocked over one day and the urn part broke. The pieces that broke off were too small for me to glue back on and I have to admit that I really wasn’t interested in doing that as I have never really had much success with patching china. I didn’t feel like throwing the whole thing out, so it stayed in the corner in its broken state for some years
– until I bought some artificial flowers to cover up the broken top.
You know many people are broken, just like that ornament. Many people go out and buy all sorts of things to cover up their broken spirits. Things like, make-up, new clothes, big homes, sports cars and even self-improvement courses, the list could go on and on. The truth still is though they often still feel just as broken underneath.
When we read John 3:17 “For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved” we are reading a promise from God to help those broken people. However because we live in a broken world, there is a brokenness that will remain until we reach Heaven. Yes we are saved and Jesus has made something beautiful out of that brokenness but only in Heaven will we be completely healed. Isaiah 25:8 promises “He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from off all faces…”
