Fruit to Sauce
My husband found a couple of plum trees on another property that we own. He picked a small quantity and brought them home. His plan was to feed them to the chooks but I decided to have a go at making plum sauce. I have never been very good at this sort of cooking but I was willing to give it a go. If the final product was no good, then the chooks could still eat them even if it was in a different form.
So the plums went into the pot along with the sugar, vinegar, ginger, salt, and peppers. I sat it on the stove and left it to cook while I managed to carry out other duties. A couple of hours I came back and started to remove the seeds which had been left in and continued to wonder if this was going to be any good to eat.
As I was doing this I reflected on how this could be related to our lives. Is it a wonder to anyone else that we start off being just plain people and then as we grow up we have various experiences that could be described as salt, sugar, vinegar, spice or heat from the stove. These experiences help change us as people; our attitude to them will mould us into the sorts of adults that we grow up to be. How is it that some people become mature, capable and useful while others just don’t seem to be able to manage to even hold down a job or cope with day to day activities? These are the mysteries of life.
God does not want us to break through the experiences of life, He wants us to grow strong and powerful. Check out Revelation 3:19, Hebrews 12:6 and Proverbs 3:12.
