One of the most difficult jobs my husband has to do as a result of the drought is pull sheep free from the mud when they get stuck in the dam. Some people just cannot understand why they would be silly enough to get stuck in dams particularly when there is water available at a water trough in the same paddock.
These sheep however are not really that different to people are they? Some people when they find themselves in desperate circumstances move headlong into the situations that have consequences that they had not anticipated. They find themselves in circumstances that they are unable to get out of without the assistance of someone bigger, stronger and more powerful.
Those of us standing on the sidelines of these peoples’ lives sometimes shake our heads and wonder how they managed to get into such a mess. We can judge and debate about why they didn’t take up other options that they had available. We can declare that we wouldn’t get into the same mess and maybe we wouldn’t but that is us not them. We cannot know what we would do if we were that person, with their history, makeup and emotional state.
There is someone however who does know them inside out because He has made them, watched them, cried with them and cared for them. He is someone who is bigger, stronger and more powerful that can help them.
Psalm 40:1-2 “I waited patiently for the Lord and he inclined unto me and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay and set my foot upon a rock and established my goings.” If we call on God to help He will be there, all we have to do is ask.
