Sunshine
When I read the story of creation I see that the Sun was not made until the fourth day but He commanded on day three “Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind whose seed is in itself, upon the earth and it was so.” (Genesis 1:11) and in Revelation 21:23 we are told that “and the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon to shine in it; for the glory of God did lighten it and the Lamb is the light thereof.” This tells me that God’s light stronger than our Sunshine but for our limited time here on earth Sunshine is a very necessary thing.
It is a well-known fact that without Sunshine the grass, trees, flowers and crops won’t grow. A few years back we had a lot of rain over an extended period of time, with continuously cloudy days for a few weeks and the crops stopped growing. They needed the rain but they also needed the sunshine.
I remember a number of years back when we lived on the tablelands we went through one winter when the sun did not shine for over a month. At the time I didn’t blame the lack of sunshine for my flat moods, (they are not unusual for me) but after spring arrived and the sunshine returned I reported to my mother that I was feeling so much better. It was then that I realised that the lack of sunshine might have been part of the problem.
While we won’t need our Sunshine in Heaven I’m very glad that we have it here on Earth and can enjoy the things it gives us; growth, shade and patterns on my veranda as it shines through the leaves.
