Colour
If I was asked what my first thought was, it would be “Colour my World” but it wasn’t related to the words of the songs. I was thinking about what our lives would look like if it didn’t have any colour. What would our lives be like if we were just drawings in the sand, making our mark for a little while and then washed away by the tide of time?
This is of course not the way God has made our world. He has filled it with colour, colours of every variety, depth and tone. Each colour has a different effect on our emotions affecting our moods. “And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food;” (Genesis 2:9a) This also got me thinking about the other colour in our lives, the ups and downs of life. How boring would our lives be if we didn’t experience the sadness, happiness, love, hate, joy, peace, stress, quietness and storms of life? These things colour our lives not only by providing variety but they also give us opportunities to learn, grow, gain strength, find our weaknesses and just connect with others.
“I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:” (Deuteronomy 30:19)
Life will consist of the good, the bad and the ugly. We only have to turn the news on to see that is the case. When we feel pain we are reassured that we are alive and it helps us to learn how to make sensible decisions through painful consequences. Variety is the spice of life and therefore the colour of our world.
