Us
There are so many versions of “Us”. There is the “us” when we are kids, with our siblings, there is the “us” when we grow older and become a couple. Then there is the “us” that grows as children are added to the family. There is also the “us” that is the extended family we are forced to be part of and then there is also the “us” that we are part of through our social circle and support network that we choose to gather around us where we live.
The “us” in our lives is like the tide of the sea; it comes in, goes out and comes in again. There are many people who will come into our lives, they will also leave and then new people come in, filling the hole that is created. Some of these people will elect to leave us for reasons only known to them, others will leave by no choice of their own and sometimes we will choose to walk away from certain people for our own reasons.
Each person that becomes part of our lives will leave a mark on us, like shoe prints in the mud. Not all the marks will be permeant; some will be of course but not all. Each person will teach us something, either through a good experience or a bad one. The lessons we learn may make us a little stronger, more cautious, nervous, bitter, tougher or kinder, the choice is ours to make.
The bible instructs us to “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;” Hebrews 12:14-15. Let’s celebrate the “us” good and bad.
