The Sky

It’s the beginning of a new year and I woke up after a full night's sleep, I was too tired to stay up until midnight. The sky stretched out above me from horizon to horizon just like the year before me, stretches out from January to December. The sun was shining as I observed that there were a number of clouds floating above me; they were small, fluffy and very unlikely to produce any rain in their current state. However, I knew that they could disappear altogether or they might even build into great storm clouds. This of course would be great for our drought affected land which still needs lots of rain for it to recover from the years of little or now rain.

I also know that as I face my new year I too have some clouds gathering in the sky of 2015, they too like the real ones could disappear and evaporate or they could develop into storm clouds bringing with them tears, sorrow and grief. The year is still new and I cannot predict what is going to happen, unlike our weather people, but I do know that the Son is the shining light in my life, just like the sun is the most powerful like in the sky; He is the most powerful source of strength, courage and inspiration in my life.

So as the New Year begins in earnest I need to listen to what God said to Joshua in Joshua 1:9 “Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.” I need to listen and not only take it to heart but put it into practice. Practice makes perfect they say.
