Square

My calendar has many squares on it. At present they are all empty except for the date and small notes to remind me when we will be having a public holiday or there is something special about a particular date, such as a day in which we should remember a saint or simply informing me of another country’s national day.

The calendar hangs on the wall, giving an air of expectation about the month ahead. There is room to note which appointments I will need to attend, functions that I will be involved with or other special occasions that need to be remembered.

There will be the dull, ordinary, unspectacular things that come with everyday life. Things like submitting paperwork, meetings, reporting dates or deadlines that need to be met.

What sorts of things would I like to see noted on that calendar? Things that I find interesting, speaking engagements, book signings, things that indicate that dreams are being fulfilled, such as an overseas trip, these are things that I would like to see written all over the calendar. Realistically though, it will be the ordinary things in life that will need to be noted and completed.

I suspect that if it was filled to the max with dreams, those dreams would lose their shine and glitter. They would become ordinary things.

So I look forward to seeing what things, both exciting and ordinary, are put in the blank squares. What I do need to remember though is that no matter what jobs are listed, I need to do them whole heartedly and with all my might so that I can honour God by how I do what needs to be done.

“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;” Colossians 3:23
