Nature
What I like about Nature is its ability to recover from the devastating events that it’s put through. Our Australian country is often subjected to horrific bushfires, winds, droughts and floods. Even my garden is subjected to considerable periods of neglect from time to time depending on what other issues I have to deal with and it still manages to bounce back to life once I start caring for it again.
So what is the secret of the marvellous ability to recuperate? I can only point to an amazing God who created it in the first place. He did such a good job of creating the world that even He looked at what he made at the end of most days and declared that it was good. (Genesis 1)
Unlike our man-made structures there is no inbuilt ability to recover from destruction. Human hands must work hard to repair any damage. We may have to use a bull-dozer and clear everything back to ground level and start again.
The other great thing is that we are also part of God’s created wonders and when we are put through the storms of life we can call on Him to help repair any dumps and bruises. “And Jesus answering said unto them, they that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick.” Luke 5:31 He promises that He will help us if only we ask Him in Jeremiah 33:3 “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” So each time I look around me and see landscape recovering from a disaster I can remind myself that the God of creation is so powerful that He is able and willing to help me through any of my tough times
