Today is..
Hot and I have to rest because I also had a migraine but Sunday, has traditionally been our day of rest in western society. So, it is literally a day of rest for me. The migraine hit me right in the middle of a church service I was attending. This is of course the other thing that we traditionally do on Sunday.
These days more and more people spend their Sunday’s at sport, beach, markets, chilling in front of the Television or madly trying to get ready for the week ahead. I keep remembering a story in my first book about a man who’s doctor recommend that he attend church in order to get some rest. I understand that it may have worked at the time but certainly not now.
There have been so many questions raised by this experience yesterday. If I attach it to the fact that this is the second time that this has happened in the last few weeks I could come up with some interesting pictures by joining the dots.
The bible tells me in Exodus 34:21 “Six days thou shalt work, but on the seventh day thou shalt rest: in earing time and in harvest thou shalt rest.” As a mother I found this very hard. This is now raising more questions. Do we have a legalistic view of “rest”? Once I did the maths and worked out that if I spent a certain amount of time resting each time I could cover the full day. It was an effort to spread the rest out over my very busy week at a time when Sunday seemed to be the most demanding.
I had a feeling during the week leading up to this experience the God was trying to get me to lift my game up a notch or two. I think these questions therefore are part of that process. It will be interesting to see where this leads but one thing is for sure I will start here “And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, [do] all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him”. Colossians 3:17
