Playtime

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 says: “There is a time for everything,

and a season for every activity under the heavens:

a time to be born and a time to die,

a time to plant and a time to uproot,

a time to kill and a time to heal,

a time to tear down and a time to build,

a time to weep and a time to laugh,

a time to mourn and a time to dance,

a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,

a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,

a time to search and a time to give up,

a time to keep and a time to throw away,

a time to tear and a time to mend,

a time to be silent and a time to speak,

a time to love and a time to hate,

a time for war and a time for peace.”

This tells me that we should also have some “playtime” in our lives. Many people do not take enough time to play and regenerate and recover from the stresses of work and life. This can result in our bodies falling apart and breaking making us less effective for God.

They might be so busy that they find it hard to stop working. They may believe that play might dishonour Him. Sometimes we dishonour God more by not partaking in play opportunities. It reduces our contact with people in the world who need to hear about His love and care. Apart from that we can come across as just too serious.

We can honour God in our “playtime” by making sure that we enjoy the games we play, we play fair, encourage other members of the team and be good sports, regardless of who wins. Play well my friends!
