Black and White
Oh how we would like life to be black and white. That would mean that there is a very definite right and wrong about how everyone should live. One of the things that have annoyed me in the last couple of days is this need that so many people have to tell everyone what they need to do! First we have the advertisers telling us that we need buy this, have this and get this, do this program or holiday there. We have social commentators telling us that our children should only have a certain amount of screen play. Health experts tell us that we all need more exercise and eat less of some things and more of other things. Government regulations have to be followed in order to sell our stock. We have cultivated a social environment of distrust.
If life was more black and white it would be a case of one suit fits all. You and I know that this just isn’t the case. God has made us as individuals and each of us live in circumstances that are just as individual. Like most black and white photos that means that there are many grey areas along our life’s road.
What might work for me may not necessarily work for others. That does not mean that I am right or that you are wrong, we are just different.
Paul had to deal with the issues of imposing the same regulations on all members of the church and addresses this in 1Corthinthians 8:1-10:33 where he says: “Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.”
Our world would be a lot better off if we all got on with what God wants us to do.
