Strange
It might seem strange that a person would light a wood stove in the middle of summer. Yes I have lit the stove three times this week. Why? Thunder storms are a big part of our Australian summers and often when they get wound up our electricity gets cut off. The wood stove allows us to indulge in a hot meal and hot drinks while we wait for those poor workers suffering in stormy weather to reconnect us.Strange
I was advised on many occasions to dispose of our wonderful pieces of history and go all electric. I refused, I insisted on keeping our high tank, which gravity feeds water through our taps along with our wood stove. This amazing high tank watering system is currently out of action as the tank has developed a hole which gravity feeds water straight out on to the ground faster than through our taps. This means that we are currently dependent on electricity to make sure that our house has a constant water flow. But the wood stove is still sort of functioning, once it would have heated our water as well for free but that system got clogged and no longer works either. It will however still cook a decent meal and boil water hotter than the electric jug so I rejoice in that much.
As our technology advances and gets more elaborate it will be harder to hang onto what is considered old fashioned technology. I see no need to dispose of such equipment; it works effectively and is really much greener than people give it credit for.
There is a saying that goes along the lines of its not wise to put all your eggs in the one basket and I would agree. This is my effort at doing just that.
