Mail - Surprise

Most correspondence today is done through cyber space, email however when we first moved to the farm we had no internet and made very few trips to town. So there was always great excitement when an actual handwritten letter arrived. My mother was very good at letter writing and often would send a letter just so the kids had something to look forward to. During our weekly telephone conversations she would generally mention if she had sent one.

One day as we were driving to the mail box which is at the front gate about a one and a half kilometres drive from the house, one of the boys said: “I hope we have a letter in the box today.” Ouch I thought, mum didn’t mention that she had sent a letter for the boys. So as I drove along I prayed “God only you can do something here.”

We arrived and there was “mail” for the boys and I said thank you God. It reminded of the promise found in Isaiah 65:24 “and it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.” God had known that the boys would like to receive a letter on that particular day and had prompted my mother to write one several days in advance so that it would arrive on time. I even feel that He allowed her to forget to mention it in order to surprise me and the boys and give us reassurance of just how much He cares about us.

Only a God that knows all things and cares very deeply for all of His creation as individuals would go to all that trouble. It is wonderful to know that He cares enough to make this happen.
