Reward
We all like to be rewarded for our hard work. My husband was recently rewarded with a small harvest as a result of his hard work in the garden. The bible tells us in 2 Thessalonians 3:20 “For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.” Don’t get me wrong, I do understand that there are people in society that are unable to work and need to be cared for but there are many who could do something but elect to do absolutely nothing.
It’s not that long ago when there was no such thing as government welfare. If you needed help, it would have come from members of your family or friends. During our period of prosperity many of these caring challenges were taken over and funded by the government departments. This left the general population free to get on with their lives which meant that we worked harder paying taxes to fund these projects.
It has occurred to me in the last few days that our society is about to come full circle. Many governments are finding that due to the increase of the needs in our society they do not have the funds to continue many social service programs. I think that this will mean that we are going to have see neighbour helping neighbour, friend helping friend, rich helping poor and children helping parents to a greater extent again.
This is not to take away credit from all those people who do a great deal of work at present. Hopefully when this happens it will also mean that people will actually connect with people, face to face more often again and I suspect that some problems will essentially disappear. That would be a great reward.
