Something Blue
When I looked up what Blue was supposed to mean I found this: “Blue is the color of the sky and sea. It is often associated with depth and stability. It symbolizes trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith, truth, and heaven. Blue is considered beneficial to the mind and body.” I am sure that someone somewhere did a considerable amount of research to come up with these conclusions. Considering there is so much blue in our world, created by God, it does not surprise me.
As a result I wonder if this is why so many companies choose blue as their base colour for their offices or fittings. They are trying to send an unconscious message to all their clients that their company embraces all of the associated meanings. Having not carried out any research of my own, I have to wonder if the higher the risk involved means that the business is more likely to employ more blue colouring in their environment.
When we travel to Sydney by train, I had noticed that the interior décor is generally blue. Thinking about other photos of the interiors of other trains I realised that this is fairly common. So my logic is telling me that since trains are high speed machines that are travelling on some fairly narrow tracks, swaying from side to side it would be easy for people to be concerned about how safe they are. Is there a perception by the designers of these machines that by making the interior largely blue people will unconsciously be more relaxed and therefore more confident that they will reach their destination safely?
How wonderful is it that God gave us plenty of blue to look at and made our personalities react to that precise colour in that specific way to help us relax.
