Love

It’s all flowers and teddy bears, isn’t it, Love particularly on Valentine’s Day. These were my romantic beliefs that I used to have. That was until things went wrong. On a bad day, love didn’t feel like love at all. Why did it all feel wrong? There was an instruction that had nothing to do with feelings, well not good ones anyway. It was this: “But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;” Matthew 5:44 the sort of people that create bad feelings not good ones. As I worked through this verse I thought about Jesus going to the cross because He loved me and how that must have been a hard thing to do. I realised that love was something you do, not a feeling. Jesus loved us so He went to the cross. If I love my child I feed, wash, teach and look after them, these are all things that I do.

Feelings are related to romance not love. My very smart daughter says a movie only lasts for two hours. Her point is that romance only lasts for a short while not forever. Love will last because love is something you keep giving by always doing those things that prove that you love your child and yes your enemy.

“Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. These are not feelings but things I need to do.
