Matching

I love things to match. It is something that I have always liked. When I was a child we moved a lot of times and as we didn’t own our furniture. Each move meant a new set of furnishings which didn’t accommodate this desire. The décors in these houses were often made up of donated furniture which really didn’t match. As an adult finances didn’t allow us to buy new matching furniture either. Things still don’t match in this house. Why this would be so important to me I’m not sure, maybe it’s the subtle influences of advertising during my childhood.

I love things to match. It is something that I have

One other desire I had as a child was to match my mother. I often wanted to wear smaller versions of her clothes; you know the ones, Mother/daughter outfits. I wanted to be as good, calm and quiet as she was. I am not a carbon copy of her. I knew from a very young age that I was more like my father than my mother, which was a great source of frustration for me.

What I have learnt though is that God made me as an individual. I do not match anyone else in the world. Slowly I am learning that I am a child of God, unique and like no one else in the world. He loves me because He made me the way I am for a very special plan that He has put in place just for me. This also applies to everyone else in the world. How wonderful is that!

Yes I know that there are still days when I listen to those voices that try to tell me that I should be more like my mother or other saints of God. I do try to listen to God more and more but some days the other voices are still a little louder. “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10
