Water - Frozen
Water does things differently to other liquids when it freezes. It expands rather than shrinks. In the process of freezing its power can break anything that may try to confine it too closely, such as a bottle or a crack in a rock. There are times when it really smashes things, for example when it becomes hail. Depending on the size of those hail stones the damage can be quite devastating. If it freezes while dripping it creates the most beautiful icicles. As frozen snow covers a community in a blanket of white we see a beauty that can stagger the imagination.
We can also do things differently through the power of God. We can be beautiful, sparkling as we endeavour to live more and more like Jesus each day. Showing others how much He cares for the people that He created. Throughout history, many Christians have managed to break many of the social issues that have confined people in difficult circumstances. I am thinking of William Wilberforce and his work to abolish slavery and Caroline Chisholm and her work amongst the convict women during the early days of Australia’s European settlement. These people worked hard and consistently for many years to smash what were great social injustices. Sometimes God allows things to happen fast as well, not that I can give solid examples here.
At the very least if we live our lives through God’s spirit we will make our world a much nicer place and give some people some extra beauty.
No matter what God calls us to do in order to make this world a better place to live we can be reassured that He will give us all that we need to accomplish it “I can do all things through Christ[a] who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13
