Christian Preachers - Book Review
Christian Preachers by Nigel Clifford – A book review
How I was humbled by this book. What struck me was the author’s realism. He seemed to talk honestly of both faults and godly attributes of all those that he has mentioned. I am sure there must be another volume for those that he has failed to mention.
Recently in a sermon if was suggested that the various generations of Israelites had forgotten the wonders that their God had performed and blessed a previous generation. This was given as the reason for their straying away for the Lord’s way of living. I came away wondering how they were to remember the blessings of their God when they hadn’t lived in that particular time. It is hard enough for me to remember what life was like thirty or forty years ago without the reminders of photos or written stories. Yet these people would have had none of these memory prompts. Yes they were told to tell their children all these things but life gets busy and children are inclined not to listen to their elders until they reach a certain age.
This book is a great reminder of the richness of our Christian history and the power of God. It reminds those of us who have a notion that people in ages past suffered from a Christianity that was light and mostly insincere that their Christian walk was true and real. It helps to recall how God moved amongst us all the way through His history and it is still His history.
As revival after revival swept the earth time and time again we are reminded that His power, greatness and majesty is very real. He has the power to instigate a new revival not only in our land but across the world if only a few would bow down in prayer and cry out to Him. If you are feeling a little despondent and need some encouragement about the power of our wonderful God this is the book to sit down and read.
