Fix

Oh what a lot of things there are in my life that need to be fixed. They range from cupboard doors, bathroom, garden, pot plants and a host of renovation jobs that I never seem to get around to. Once we would have made sure that we did all these jobs ourselves but time and age have caught up with us. We are trying to find someone to fix the bathroom. Beside the truth is that these are all only just material goods, they will not last (that’s why they are broken) and they are not really that important in the light of God’s great plan for humanity. “But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:” Matthew 6:20 I manage to keep the house reasonably clean and we are generally heathy and the house works. There is plenty of room for all our needs and essentially there is a very strong roof over our heads.

In the middle of all these things there is one very big job that is well and truly beyond me to fix and that is ME. The only person in this world that can do this particular job is Christ and the Holy Spirit.

I have been reading about some of our wonderful preachers in history and one story that really struck me was that of Robert Murray McCheyne. He prayed it is said “Lord make me as holy as a pardoned sinner can be made”. What a wonder desire to have! Like David I want God to “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.” Only He can do that and it will take the rest of my life but it will happen.
