Restoring Order

We have a small courtyard at the side of the house which after some decent rain and a lack of work on my part have become what could be considered a bit jungle like. Eventually I got out and cleaned up some of the mess. It took a lot of work. I started pulling the easy weeds. I’m sure that some people think that I should have started with the tough stuff first. The small stuff would have been easier and allowed me to cool down slowly.

However the method in my madness was that by pulling the small stuff first it enabled me to get a better look at the bigger weeds and find a better way to get rid of them. As I thought about this process later I thought about how God sometimes deals with the sin in our lives after we ask Him to forgive us. Often He will help us to overcome the smaller problems in our lives before He deals with the big issues.

As I cleaned up after getting very dirty I thought about how sins are dirty and thought that Jesus didn’t have to clean up like I did when He deals with our sins and then I realised just how wrong I was. Sin is very dirty stuff and when Jesus hung on the cross, all my sins and those that the rest of the world were placed on Him. He was so dirty with sin that God had to turn away from Him “And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” Matthew 27:46 As I continued to clean up I thanked Jesus for paying the price for my sin.
