Restore
When we try to fix things around our house we are trying, unsuccessfully, to restore things in line with the history of the house. We have unconfirmed reports that the house was built over one hundred years ago. We must of course fix things in order to fit not only our lifestyle but also the social structure of the twenty first century. The house has an unfinished look to it but it has been remodelled in a way that has served us well, particularly when we had up to six children living here on a consistent basis. Mind you if the work is ever finished I will most likely be a very old lady.
It is a bit like me. I’m not finished yet, I have my rough edges, faults and personality traits that could use some remodelling. God has started this massive job and He will continue to do so until the day He calls me home. “For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now; Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:” Philippians 1:5-6
No matter how long the house stands and no matter how many people will come and live in it, it will have different renovations and maintenance carried out to make sure that it stays standing. It needs to stay relevant to the living conditions of the families who will call it home. It could stand for a couple of hundred years yet, unlike me. My days are numbered by God my father and I’m sure they will not be that long. “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” Jeremiah 29:11
