Facebook - Day 1: Starts with Rope
We have a lawnmower that is well over twent

We have a lawnmower that is well over twenty years old. It is showing signs of its age. It’s rough and ready and it STARTS WITH Rope. It has trouble getting started some mornings, particularly after it’s been on holidays due to wet weather or it has been waiting for the grass to grow. On these occasions I have to enlist the help of “Aerostart” and either my husband or son’s muscles. When it goes it does a very good job.

This lawnmower reminds me of myself some days. I’m a bit rough and ready and battered even. I have trouble getting started more mornings than I care to admit. I’m showing quite a few scars and wrinkles of life. The most wonderful thing is, that like my mower I am still useful to God. Even if I was completely broken physically (bedridden) I would be able to lie here and pray all day and God could use that. He heard the prayers of a bedridden lady in England in 1872 and sent a revival through the preaching of D L Moody. (Christian Preachers, Nigel Clifford p291) I’m not bedridden however and yes if you get me fired up I can still move a mountain of work. Mind you – afterwards I need to rest to get over it.

We are instructed to be: “Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord; Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;” Romans 12:11-12 There are three things to remember about what we do for the Lord: 1 It’s what He wants us to do; 2 that we do it with all our heart soul and mind and 3 it’s for His glory not ours.

No we don’t need rope to get us started but let’s rest in Him and start anyway.
