Floral
I’m old enough to have had to attend Home Economic classes at school. For those that don’t understand what I am talking about, they were classes to teach girls how to cook, sew, wash up and carry out home duties. One of the units each year was Floral Art. Oh dear, I didn’t pass with great marks. It was considered back then an essential skill for a homemaker. I just realised we weren’t taught gardening skills in these classes, hum – were the flowers to appear by magic or was it considered the man’s job to produce the flowers. I must confess to some memory loss on that front.
Floral Art from my poor memory, had elements of proportion, balance, form and sometimes a theme. Some arrangements go as far as to tell a story. Yes I did think about this too, but haven’t had the courage to go there yet. Each floral arrangement would be different and you kept it fresh by sticking it in the fridge each night. What, our fridge would never have the room!
Some people are able to live their lives according to these rules as well with proportion, balance, form. Appling them to how much time they give to work, children, families and church. Some of us though are a lot like me when it comes to floral art. I pick some flowers; pull off the unnecessary leaves, find a vase, fill it with water and plonk the flowers in. They still look great, they smell wonderful, particularly if I have cut roses or jonquils and they brighten up the whole room.
I just get things done when I can, dropping everything to assist other members of the family and so on but hopefully I have brighten up someone’s life and made them feel a little better.
