Half
As I look at the sky one afternoon I noticed that half of it was covered with very black stormy clouds. It was a warning that things needed to be done quickly. Vehicles needed to be put under cover now rather than when we normally did. Dogs should be feed sooner rather than later. Anything lying around needed to be put away. We could not be prepared for everything that might happen but we could at least make sure that we had done all that could be done and the rest we had to leave in God’s hands.
As it happened the storm centre was nasty and hit another area. Trees were blown over, some were spilt by lightning, electricity supplies were cut and many volunteers were called out to help clean up some of the mess.
There are times in our lives when we can see a storm approaching and we can prepare ourselves. We will not be able to predict all the outcomes or all the consequences. In fact I am often surprised at just how different things turn out. It doesn’t seem to matter how much thought I give to some situations the results are completely different to what I expected. There are other times when events will just surprise us; there will be no warning at all.
In Matthew chapter 25 Jesus tells us that we need to be prepared for one event all of the time. That event is our death. No one knows when our time here on earth has run its course. Jesus tells a story of ten virgins, five of them had things in order while the other five didn’t. The story is to show us how important it is to be ready to meet Him because there will be no warning.
