This is Good
Some traditions are good but of course they may not be good for everyone. At Easter we remember that Jesus died on the cross and rose again to save us from our sins. Just like birthdays, Anzac Day, and Christmas we have special traditions here in Australia that help us remember and celebrate. Other countries have their traditions which are often different to ours.
On Good Friday we have had a tradition of eating Hot Cross Buns because they remind us of the cross and what Jesus did there for us. We have traditionally eaten Lamb for dinner as this reminds us that Jesus was the Lamb of God, the perfect sacrifice for our sins. It was also more convenient as we have always been sheep graziers. “For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)” Romans 5:17
We have never been big fish eaters in this family. However we have had fish on the table at times to remind us that Jesus wants us to go out and tell others about why He died for all mankind. “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:” Matthew 28:19
While these things are good to help us remember the events of Good Friday what really is important is that we remember the Word of God in our hearts. If we cannot celebrate any day without the trappings then they are occupying a place they were never intended for. I no longer can eat Hot Cross Buns but I never have to celebrate Good Friday without knowing scripture and that is a good thing
