Breakfast
Due to some wet weather and a couple busy weeks I woke this morning to a long list of jobs that needed to be done quickly and to a dead line. As I tried to do about three jobs at the same time, my stomach started complaining about the fact that I still hadn’t eaten breakfast. So I grab a piece of chocolate slice and a cuppa in order to get me through until I actually had time to sit down and eat my proper breakfast. It’s what we call eating on the “run”. It’s something that most mothers with young children would be familiar with. Eating mouthfuls of food while making lunches, doing hair, making sure teeth are cleaned and bags packed. Being able to sit down, eat, enjoy and savour a meal seems to be very rare these days but we are told by the experts that eating slowly is better for our bodies and health.
As I munched, sipped and ran between the sink, table and stove I wondered if we are sometimes guilty of eating our spiritual food on the run as well. Are we so busy that we are only taking mouthfuls of God’s word on the run? Don’t get me wrong, small bits are better than nothing at all but being able to sit, enjoy and savour it makes it much easier to understand and hear what God is trying to tell us.
“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:” 2 Timothy 3:16
As long as we make sure that at least now and again we sit down and eat properly not only our physical food and our scriptures we will be able to be sustained by those meals on the run.
