Up
“Can you get up please Uncle Alex I want to play chess?” This was my granddaughter’s request at 7.00am this morning. The issue here was that the said Uncle works night shift and seven in the morning is just too early for him. After distracting her for about an hour he did rise to the occasion as all good uncles do. The other thing that I had to work out was why she wanted to play chess; I really didn’t think she, at age 6, would know how to play that particular game. It took me a little while to realise that she was actually asking to have a game of “pool”.
I see both these things in myself. My reluctance to get out of my comfortable spiritual bed and do what God wants me to do. How easy is it to stay within my comfort zone and not step up to a new challenge. I’m not quite as good as Abram as picking up stumps and moving forward it would seem. “Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:” Genesis 12:1
The other thing that I find myself doing is asking God for things that I really don’t know what I’m asking for. It’s just as well the Holy Spirit know what I am asking for and can interpret “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” Romans 8:26
God loves us enough to keep prompting us to move out of our comfort zone and He also knows before we do what we are asking, which is a very good thing.
