Faceless Self-Portrait
Oh, dear where do I start with this one? I’m pretty sure there are days when people don’t want to see my face, particularly if I am tired, angry or sad. As a mother, there are very few if any, days when I can hide away from the family and the world. We, as humans are very interested in faces, they help us to read people and understand how they feel. When people talk to us, if we can see their face we are able to tell if they are serious or if they are trying to tease us.
Nothing frustrates us more than being controlled or directed by what society has named ‘those faceless men’. They are the people who appear to make decisions without actually having any first-hand or practical experience of a given situation.
Of course humans have always been interested in faces. Even Moses wanted to see the face of God. He wasn’t allowed to because it would have killed him. “And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory. And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy. And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.” Exodus 33:18-20
While I am quite happy not to see the face of God here on earth I know that one day I will see Him face to face and that will be a very awesome experience.
