Upside-Down

PIC_1205.JPG

I was watching my grandson play with his toys. He was holding them upside-down in order to pretend they were diving into water. As I watched him, I was reminded of how we have to be upside-down when we dive into real water. I’m not an athletic sort of person and since I’m a little bit afraid of heights, diving was never something I pursued with an enthusiasm. When we are diving for real, we need to line up properly, push off with some force and plunge over the edge of the diving board. We will never be able to reach the water if we hang on to the diving board.

As I thought about this prompt today I was aware that there are many times when our lives feel like everything is upside-down. You know, those times when nothing seems to be going right and we are having trouble even thinking straight because we have so many different issues coming at us all at once.

Some people are very capable of walking to the end of any board and diving beautifully into the abyss below but some of us (I’m sure I’m not the only one) need to have support and encouragement, not only to get to the end but to be able to dive headlong into the depths of what God has for us.

So, sometimes when things feel as if they are upside-down, I wonder if it isn’t God holding us there, helping us to dive in to a new venture or area of our lives. When we land, it will not be a pretend life or venture. It will be very real and God will be there with us all the way.

“lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” Matthew 28:20b
