Hands

PIC_1214.JPG

We have a book that was given to my son when he was a baby. It’s called “Two hands for helping”. What I think is cute about this book is that it is cut out in the shape of a left hand. It explains that hands can do lots of things such as do up buttons, stroke a cat but the last line says: “and wave goodbye”. The message here, I think, is to tell young children that sometimes we have to say goodbye to people. It won’t always be goodbye for ever but sometimes it will be.

Oh, how often do we have to wave goodbye to people and things. We may not physically stand and wave our hands when our material possessions are taken from us but we have to let go and move on. We are only passing through this world and hanging on to all our goods will just clutter up our lives. They will weigh us down and restrict our freedom.

On the back cover of this little book there is a chorus which finishes with: “Two little hands to do His will and one little heart to love him still”. This is what the hands that God gave us are for. They cannot do His will without our heart loving Him. Without this love what we do with our hands will be useless. “And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.” 1 Corinthians 13:3

There are a lot of things that our hands can do and often God needs our hands to work for Him. So let us work hard and with love, for Him and for mankind.
