Heart
When we use the phrase “the heart of the matter” we are referring to core and the basic centre of something. This is because we have always understood that the heart, as an organ, is in the centre of the chest and without it we do not live. Not here on earth anyway!
This is a great thought when you think that God is the centre of the universe and without Him we would not have life. The universe would not exist. “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth and the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.” Genesis 1:1-2. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.” John 1:1-3
Another thought we have when it comes to “having a heart” is that the more people care the bigger their heart is. We say that caring people have a good heart. Hearts are associated with love; love leads to caring; love and caring will often lead us to do extraordinary things for others, often strangers.
Who did the most extraordinary thing for mankind, not strangers but His own creation? A creation that was formed out of extraordinary love, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
So as I ponder my life today, I need to remember that God is my heart/centre and with Him I can care for all those who cross my path.
