Weather
We listen to the weather report every night. We believe what they tell us, well we used to because they seem to get it wrong so often. As I woke up this morning I found that the clouds were lying very heavily on the ground. My thoughts returned to last night’s broadcast with its clear sky and sunshine icons above our town. As I watched the sky I couldn’t imagine that we were going to see any of the promised sunshine for the whole day.
Of course there were moments when the sun broke through the clouds. I hung out the washing with little hope of it getting dry. I even ventured
outside to do some cleaning up in preparation for an upcoming function. All the time I kept thinking about the unreliability of the weather bureau. They just don’t seem to have a clue about the weather and what it will do.
It has occurred to me over the last few months that we have put far too much faith in these weather predictions. Just because the pictures from space tell us that the clouds are coming and the computer models tells us that we are going to get a certain amount of rain from the same cloud formations does not make it right. Why, because the satellites and computers do not control the clouds or the rain. God does!
When it comes to weather prediction I often think of the passage in the Bible where mankind had decided that they could build a tower that would reach to the heavens. Genesis 11:1-10 and how God put a stop to their pride. I sometimes think that is what God does with the weather. When humans are so sure that they know what is going to happen, He deals with our pride.
