Rules of Thirds
This is best explained as a feature being placed at one third across the photo or a horizon being place one third up the screen. What about life though, is there a rule of thirds, which can be applied to our existence? There are twenty four hours in a day. When I was growing up we were told that we should spend about eight of those sleeping, eight working and eight relaxing, developing relationships, worship and hobbies.
Now I suspect that if we were to examine the timetables of most people in society today we would find that they have very different timelines. I remember when the children were little I was lucky to get six hours of sleep a night.
“Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10 covers our resting.
“Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.” Ecclesiastes 9:10 encourages us to work to the best or our ability.
“With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men:” gives us an idea of what might be a good idea to do with the rest of our spare time.
Rest, work and service are a good way to divide up not only our days but our lives.
