Daily Ritual

I have to admit that the most common daily ritual that I carry out is checking my Facebook messages and notifications. Many people would say that is not a good thing but there are days when I may not get around to doing it until later in the day.

My excurse is that we live at least twenty minutes from town and all our neighbours are busy people. It seems that I cannot match the time I have available to their available time. So Facebook becomes my social connection to the outside world.

God made us social creatures and we need to talk to people in the good and bad times. I’ve said this before, there was a reason why God created Eve for Adam and there is a reason why He tells us not to forget to meet with other Christians. “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” Hebrews 10:25.

Having had to deal with depression for most of my life, I understand the need to socialise. As I listen to people who tell us that we need to attend counselling to combat the “black dog” as it’s called here in Australia I silently think that if we talked to our neighbours, friends and those in the street more often we would find that many of the mild cases would just evaporate. I know that if I’m having a bad day there is usually someone on Facebook who will have something encouraging to say, brightening my day.

I also like to return the favour by attempting to make sure that if someone seems to be a little down I have something encouraging to say that helps them get through their day.
