Borrowed
I was borrowed, on the day of this word came up, to look after my great grandson. His mother had an appointment to keep and needed someone to babysit him. As I thought about what I could write under this heading I realised that we borrow a lot of things and if we borrow, someone has to lend. It’s not the opposite of borrow but goes hand in hand.
We often have to borrow something because we have forgotten to be prepared. Ever gone somewhere without a coat or jumper (sweater) and the weather has turned cold. Usually someone is willing to lend you something to help you get warm again.
The thing about something being borrowed is that you only have possession of the article for a short period of time.
It is often said that our children are lent to us, not given. We bring home our new born babies and after about the first six weeks we think that this parenting job is going to go on forever and a day. Then one day we watch our children walk out the door and realise that our time with them is over. We ask ourselves wasn’t it just yesterday that we brought that baby home? They have their own lives, our role as parents has shifted into a different gear in this thing called life. When you think about the borrowed we realise that life is actually borrowed time. We are here for such a short while, and then we have to go back to our creator.
“Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.” James 4:14.
When we borrow something it is our responsibility to look after it and return it to the owner in a very good condition. Do we?
