This morning I had to face a sink full of dirty dishes. I’d had a busy day or two and I just could not face the dishes last night. As I worked my way through the mountain I prayed. I prayed for a young family who were facing grief again. I prayed for the meeting I have tomorrow. I prayed that God would give me a sense of humour when I have to face some “big people” in my life. I thanked God for the other authors and friends who have encouraged me during my very busy couple of weeks. I also thanked him for the lack of panic that I was feeling, even though I was feeling muddled headed and unmotivated.
As the mountain of dishes dissolved my thoughts turned to how quickly things get done when we stop messing around and just start the job that is in front of us.
In the past I have asked my children to do something and their cry has been but that’s just too big for me to do. Yet the job has always been accomplished when they have tackled it, one toy, one article of clothing or one piece of rubbish at a time.
I was discussing a project with someone recently and they commented that they would only be able to carry it out if everything fell into place. My response was that it won’t work like that. The only way the make it happen is to put things in place so that they could do what they wanted. What do they say, a journey of a thousand miles starts with one step but if we don’t take a step we will be forever at the starting line? Of course we must not plan without asking God to guide us along the way.
