Local
In many towns you need to be born and breed there to be considered a local. Inverell however is a town that I consider to be my home and therefore I consider myself a “local”. Why because I have two set of grandparents who had a great deal to do with the development of our town.
These wonderful people where devoted servants of Jesus, serving their church and community all of their lives. It is their wonderful example that I remember and try to emulate. I cannot do the things they did; some talents have jumped a generation or two. I live in a different time and a different social environment to cope with.
What I do have is a faith in God my father, Jesus my saviour and the Holy Spirit my helper. I have the prayers that they said on my behalf and the lessons that they taught my father and mother to help me know the truth, love and kindness that comes from faithfulness.
Those generations who have lived before us seem to be important to God, as He lists them in several books of the Old Testament. We need to know where we have come from so we can be aware of some difficulties that we might be confronted with as we move through life. If you know that a parent has suffered some sort of illness or condition then you know you what to look for in your life and that of your children. This won’t always apply but it helps. It’s another way that God will show us and help us to make sensible decisions. He gave us intelligence to use wisely.
“Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.” Matthew 10:16
