Money
As I was surfing through my Facebook memories I came across a post that I had shared on this day last year. As the word Money is the title for today’s thoughts I decided to start with that memory. The post asked what you do. The first reaction is for most of us I think, the same as the cartoon character in the photo, the response is about what we do for money, how we pay our bills. The next question that is asked is about what we do to help the world.
I find it so easy to be focused on what has to been done, replaced and paid for that it is hard to keep thinking outside the circle of paying the monthly bills. There is a song that it titled “Money makes the world go round”, well it doesn’t. God makes the world go round, money makes humanity go around and around in circles. The Bible tells us in 1 Timothy 6:10 “For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” No we cannot live without some money in this day and age, however if it controls our lives to the point where we ignore our family, friends and the problems of the world (I know we cannot fix them all either) then we will not honour the God who makes the world rotate each day, season and year.
As we celebrate the shortest/longest day of the year, let us remember that it is God who controls the world and when we allow Him to control us then we will be able to do more for Him and His world and a lot of money will not be necessary.
