Calm
Staying calm in amongst the busyness of life is often difficult particularly when we have unexpected drama. When these unexpected things happen we often declare that life has thrown a spanner in the works and they can test our patience, faith and mental health. Of course spanners come in very different sizes. So the bigger the drama, we consider it to represent the larger the spanner that has been thrown into our life. As a younger woman with less experience I would often feel overwhelmed by some of the situations I faced. So when I read James 1:2-5 tells us “My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.” I found it very hard to accept this as good advice let alone good instruction. It is hard to do this without experience behind you. The more experience I have with life the easier it is for me to realise that dramas come and go and are usually resolvable.
Faith is strengthened by exercise and often it takes a number of spanners to tighten up the strings that attach us to our Lord and saviour to teach us that God will always be there to assist us in the dramas of life. Colossians 2:6-7 says: “Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude.”
This life will throw more spanners at me I know that but I have proved that God will be faithful and therefore I can continue to trust him.
