Clouds

Today I woke early and checked the sky; after all I wanted to know what sort of clouds were out there in the sky. I had a load of washing to do and get dry. I would need most of the day to achieve that if it was cloudy. After breakfast I took the load of washing to the clothes host and again checked the sky, it was clear blue and there was a nice light breeze stirring the leaves on nearby trees.

The washing dried and as I looked at the sky again later that evening I could see through the window that a light covering of clouds had returned.

What was the message for me on this wonderful successful washing day? God seemed to be reminding me that clouds in life will come and go; they will never be a permanent feature in my life. I remembered my mother telling me when I was younger that the most common phrase in the Bible was “And it came to pass”. As a youngster I had wondered what that quaint phase really meant. I realised that it meant what it said, that both good and bad things will come and then they will be over. Nothing in this world will last forever.

“While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:18.

Let us all take comfort that it is only the word of God that will last forever.
