Words

Sometimes words are just words; they do not mean a thing. Having missed a recent family wedding I have had to rely on the words of others to even know how the event went. Yes, there have been some photos and even keepsakes but it is the description of those who were there that paint the real pictures for me. Photos cannot tell me about the emotional tone of the day, the respect shown to those in the party or the family. It is through their words that I can tell how tired people are because they have worked so hard to make this event happen.

One of the most important things about a wedding though is that it marks the beginning of a marriage, a lifetime of living, loving and caring for each other and the children that may come into that relationship. “For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife; And they twain shall be o

ne flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh.” Mark 10:7-8.

When a couple stand up in front of friends and say “I do” and make promises to each other I am sure that many of them intend to keep them faithfully. Sadly there are occasions when people do stand up and say “I do” as a reason to have a party. This is another occasion when words are just words.

Someone has said that they wanted a marriage and not just a wedding. This is when those words of promise which are made in front of all the witnesses really do mean something important.

In this case it does not matter how things go on the day, the weather might be good or bad, the venue horrid or the food awful; they will have still started a lifetime together with beautiful words of love.
