In the centre of my shower is a drain, well not quite but near enough. This is where all the dirty water disappears during the cleaning process of any person that has to take a shower. If that drain wasn’t there then the water would accumulate to the point where it would have to overflow out on to the floor of my bathroom, laundry and eventually out the door before it could get away. What a mess that would create? There is also a plug that I could put into that drain which will also prevent the water from disappearing down the pipes under the house.
In our lives we often find that we feel as if we are wading in deep water. Things are a struggle and the pressure is on to get things done. Maybe you might feel as if you are just treading water. Well what we all need is a release valve. There are so many things that people use to try and release that tension, drink, drugs, parties and other such destructive behaviour. I’m not saying that we cannot do some of these things at all; after there is nothing better than a good dinner party to enjoy good fellowship, most of us need to do something different from time to time to refresh our souls, bodies and minds. These activities do not work for our good though if we used them as a means of escape.
So what is the best way to pull the plug on all that stress in our lives? Psalm 55:22 says “Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.”
Let’s give our burdens to God and step back and watch them disappear from our centre to look to the centre of the universe.
