A Logo

What does a logo do? It lets people know instantly which company the product you are looking at comes from or which organisation is trying to communicate with you. You will find the logo on the letterhead, packaging or signs. It is usually different and distinctive to a particular company or organisation; it’s a quick, instant indicator of who is who in the world. They save us from having the read the long version of the company or organisations name.

Some organisations can be identified in other ways. If a group of people drive past you on motorbikes wearing the same sort of clothing they will be identified as being a motorbike club. My son is a shearer and many shearers can be identified by the clothes they wear to work as can many other jobs such as miners or company executives.

I remember one day, years ago, going with my daughter to collect some animals for a special “Animal Farm Day” at a child care centre. As we pulled up at the gate a lady walked out of the house dressed in a specific manner. My daughter and I looked at each other and went “oh wow”. The way this lady was dressed identified her as being a member of a charity group. They all dressed in the same way. I can remember thinking shouldn’t Christians stand out like this lady did.

Do Christians have a logo? “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.” John 13:35. This is how we are meant to stand out. Our behaviour towards our fellowman, our love towards the unlovely, our enemies and sinners; this is supposed to be our logo. Do we wear our logo through our actions or hide it by blending in.
